My name is Sami Elhajjeh. I am a long term resident of Durham Region, raised in Whitby, and now currently making Clarington my home. I moved to Courtice in 2010 because of its very family oriented community that is both beautiful and safe. I loved Clarington because of its proximity to family, friends, and local business.
Being an outdoor enthusiast, living in Clarington allows me to enjoy the many outdoor activities that are in proximity such as: public tennis courts, golf courses, nature trails, dog park(s) and bike lanes .
I attended Brock University and majored in Community Health Sciences with a focus on Epidemiology and Physiology. After attaining my undergraduate degree I attended Ryerson University where I studied Public and Occupational Health, here I focused on Communicable Disease and Public Health. I currently work for the Ontario Public Service focusing on Health-Care & Long-Term Care. I have had previous roles with Health Canada/Indigenous Services Canada and Municipal Government focusing on Public Health.
I have been civil servant for almost 20 years with experience in environmental health (safe drinking water, food safety, indoor air quality and communicable/infectious diseases) and am used to helping the public in any way I can. I have been on various committees, working groups and athletic clubs that have all benefitted and promoted the community.
I have a passion for environmental and public health and have always strived to be transparent, honest, and accountable. I understand, and appreciate the responsibility that being a public servant entails and feel that it would be a seamless transition.
Having a love for a healthy lifestyle, I enjoy spending my weekends outdoors; whether it be volunteering, mountain biking, running, hiking, countless team sports (soccer, baseball, football, lacrosse) and walking my dog Nixon.
As you can see my love of the outdoors and my aim to keep Clarington's beautiful greenspace is close to my heart, especially when making future substantial decisions that could impact subsequent generations. I am a part of the community and I am here for the community.
Let's work together to make Clarington a better place to Live, Work, Play and Grow!
